Kevin “Geordie” Walker, best known as guitarist of the English rock band Killing Joke, has died. He was 64.
Walker died of a stroke Sunday morning, the band revealed in an Instagram post in the evening.
“It is with extreme sadness we confirm that at 6:30am on 26th November 2023 in Prague, Killing Joke's legendary guitarist Kevin ‘Geordie’ Walker passed away after suffering a stroke, he was surrounded by family,” the band wrote alongside an image of Walker. “We are devastated. Rest In Peace brother."
USA TODAY has reached out to the band’s representatives for more details.
Killing Joke drummer Martin Atkins mourned the loss of his bandmate in a Facebook post Sunday, sharing a music video from industrial band The Damage Manual, a supergroup that featured Walker and Atkins.
“Gutted,” Atkins captioned the post.
Walker joined Killing Joke in the late 1970s when he was recruited by original drummer Paul Ferguson and lead singer Jaz Coleman to complete the band’s lineup alongside bassist Martin “Youth” Glover.
Killing Joke released its self-titled debut album in October 1980. The band has released 15 albums over the course of its career, including 2003’s “Killing Joke.” The self-titled album featured “Loose Cannon,” which peaked at No. 25 on the U.K.’s Official Charts.
